FOREGROUND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Patient intake and documentation. Using EHR on the iPad, perform intake assessments including HPI and CC with patients, Help patients prepare for skin screening/ exams and surgeries.
  2. Scribe virtual exams for physicians on iPad.
  3. Keep the office flow moving - check for patients waiting to be brought into exam room, ensuring exam rooms stay filled. Inform patients in waiting room about delays.
  4. Assist doctor with biopsies, cryosurgeries, set up surgical trays, chaperoning (when required), and any other procedures that arise.
  5. Ensure that physician(s) and other medical staff are using proper informed electronic consent and procedure forms and acquire electronic signature.
  6. Assist physicians with excisions, flaps and grafts (if required).
  7. Perform patient education.
  8. Perform light therapy treatments as needed

BACKGROUND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Once physician reviews pathology results: In the EMA e-Lab: Review lab report for accuracy (checking patient name, date of birth, site description’s, etc.). If correct, assign the lab results. In the Results Log: Log in pathology diagnosis, action and plan per provider’s instructions. Contact patients with certain diagnosis per policy.
  2. Call patients with pathology results (except for Malignant Melanomas). Schedule appropriate follow-ups per doctor’s instructions.
  3. Handle patient phone messages. Return calls to pharmacies, patients and outside physicians. Triage escalated phone calls for urgency of care. Prior authorization for insurance purposes, etc. Document all calls in EHR of patient.
  4. Review and update pathology log and inform physician of all patients who have untreated diagnosis.
  5. Stock and organize rooms daily with supplies.
  6. Draw up syringes for daily procedures. Draw up syringes for cosmetic procedures.
  7. Handle iPledge (Isotretinoin/ Accutane) program ensuring lab results are entered and patients are properly enrolled and maintained.
  8. Clean, package and autoclave instruments for surgical kits.
  9. Keep track of inventory, supplies, ordering, etc.
  10. Clean ultrasound, autoclave, and UVB light therapy machines, etc. according to manufacturer guidelines.
  11. Check samples and supplies for expired materials and discard according to appropriate regulation.

·         Under general supervision of the Registered Nurse and  direct clinical supervision of a medical clinician, the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) performs a variety of administrative and clinical tasks that promote optimum patient care and satisfaction while enhancing clinician and practice effectiveness.

·         Performance Expectation

0.     Under direction from MD, Practice Director or RN, performs as a team member under the PFCC methodology and practice.

1.     Manage the flow of patients and paperwork through the practice by preparing the patient’s electronic or paper medical record for his/her visit, completing health forms, researching and calling in prescription renewals per clinicians written instructions, notifying patients of normal test results following clinician review and sign off, greeting/discharging and assisting patients, and providing pre/post visit instructions per practice/clinician guidelines.

2.     Prepare exam/treatment room, conduct brief interview per clinician guidelines, obtain and document vital signs, perform and document basic screening /diagnostic measures and collect and process specimens according to Practice guidelines.

3.     Assist and chaperone clinicians during examinations, procedures and treatments.

4.     Perform and document clinical procedures per established hospital policies and practice standards and guidelines.

5.     Maintain the cleanliness and general appearance of work, examination, and treatment areas; clean, disinfect, sterilize, and maintain equipment and instruments following universal precautions, infection control, and hazardous waste removal practices.

6.     Stock exam/treatment rooms, order equipment and supplies according to organization and practice guidelines, and maintain adequate quantities to meet practice demands; dispose of contaminated supplies and materials in the prescribed manner.

7.     Performs routine (daily/ weekly/ monthly) cleaning and calibration checks for medical equipment.

8.     Maintains provider schedule and keeps provider aware of the same. Assists with the provider in all aspects of patient flow. Communicates with the patients any delays or needs to reschedule.

9.     Assist with answering telephones, taking messages, scheduling appointments, tests or procedures, arranging referrals, and performing other administrative duties to meet the needs of patients, co-workers and the practice.

10.   Perform skills and procedures outlined within Scope of Practice for CMA/RMA after documented demonstration of competency, as defined by organizational or practice standards.

11.   Prepares and administers injections per clinician’s written order upon successful completion of Immunization Administration module and demonstrated competency. CMA/RMA may not administer medications, blood products or controlled substances.

12.   Recognize limitations and seek advice and direction from MD, PA or RN.

13.   Demonstrate technical and interpersonal skills necessary to complete job responsibilities.

14.   Acquire new knowledge and skills to remain current in practice.

o    PART TWO: FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITY

·         Position Objective

·         Under general supervision from the Clinical Manager and direct clinical supervision of a medical clinician, the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) and Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) performs a variety of administrative and clinical tasks that promote optimum patient care and satisfaction while enhancing clinician and practice effectiveness.

·         Performance Expectation

0.     Manage the flow of patients and paperwork through the practice by preparing the patients electronic or paper medical record for his/her visit, completing health forms, researching and calling in prescription renewals per clinicians written instructions, notifying patients of normal test results following clinician review and sign off, greeting/discharging and assisting patients, and providing pre/post visit instructions per practice/clinician guidelines.

1.     Prepare exam/treatment room, conduct brief interview per clinician guidelines, obtain and document vital signs, perform and document basic screening /diagnostic measures and collect and process specimens according to Practice guidelines.

2.     Assist and chaperone clinicians during examinations, procedures and treatments.

3.     Perform and document clinical procedures per established hospital policies and practice standards and guidelines.

4.     Maintain the cleanliness and general appearance of work, examination, and treatment areas; clean, disinfect, sterilize, and maintain equipment and instruments following universal precautions, infection control, and hazardous waste removal practices.

5.     Stock exam/treatment rooms, order equipment and supplies according to organization and practice guidelines, and maintain adequate quantities to meet practice demands; dispose of contaminated supplies and materials in the prescribed manner.

6.     Performs routine (daily/ weekly/ monthly) cleaning and calibration checks for medical equipment.

7.     Maintains provider schedule and keeps provider aware of the same. Assists with the provider in all aspects of patient flow. Communicates with the patients any delays or needs to reschedule.

8.     Assist with answering telephones, taking messages, scheduling appointments, tests or procedures, arranging referrals, and performing other administrative duties to meet the needs of patients, co-workers and the practice.

9.     Perform skills and procedures outlined within Scope of Practice for CMA/RMA after documented demonstration of competency, as defined by organizational or practice standards.

10.   Prepares and administers immunizations per clinicians written order upon successful completion of Immunization Administration module and demonstrated competency. CMA/RMA may not administer medications, blood products or controlled substances.

11.   Recognize limitations and seek advice and direction from other appropriate clinical staff.

12.   Demonstrate technical and interpersonal skills necessary to complete job responsibilities.

13.   Acquire new knowledge and skills to remain current in practice.

14.   Willingly perform other duties as required or assigned.

Education:
Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program; or Successful completion of a Licensed Nursing Assistant program; or Military medical training.
 
Experience:
With completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program, no experience is required.
Licensed Nursing Assistant must have a minimum of one year Healthcare experience.
Trained Military Medic must have the equivalent of one year related experience.
 
Requirements:
Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification or Red
Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers
 
The employee must regularly lift, carry or push/pull less than 10 pounds, frequently lift, carry or push/pull up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift, carry or push/pull up to 20 pounds
