New Hampshire ranked the healthiest state in the US!
In separate, individual reports from the analytic firm of WalletHub, and the United Health Foundation, New Hampshire has been cited as the healthiest state in the nation. This information is based on New Hampshire's social and economic factors, physical environment, clinical care, health behaviors, and health outcomes.
Despite it's high ranking New Hampshire still has its challenges in regards to keeping the population. The current list of leading causes of death in the United States (in order of ranking) reads: 1. Heart disease, 2. Cancer, 3. Accidents (unintentional injuries), 4. Stroke, 5. Chronic lower respiratory diseases, 6. Alzheimer’s disease, 7. Diabetes, 8. Nephritis, nephrotic syndrome, and nephrosis, 9. Chronic liver disease and cirrhosis, 10. Suicide. The list for the leading causes of death in New Hampshire (in order of ranking) reads: 1. Cancer, 2. Heart disease, 3. Accidents, 4. Chronic lower respiratory disease, 5. Stroke, 6. Alzheimer's disease, 7. Diabetes, 8. Suicide, 9. Chronic liver disease/cirrhosis, 10. Kidney disease.. You will notice that cancer is the leading cause of death in New Hampshire and further research shows that lung cancer is the single deadliest cancer type in New Hampshire, killing more people in the state than the next three most common cancers (colon, breast, and prostate) combined. State rates for lung cancer have historically run higher than national averages, heavily influenced by historical and regional smoking rates.
As medical assistants it is important for us to know what our population struggles with most and how we can help turn the tide and improve health outcomes within our state.
